What to Do in Secaucus

The city can trace its origins to the Dutch, who settled part of the area in the 1660s. The name, however, is derived from Algonquin for “place of snakes.” In its early existence, Secaucus was devoted to agriculture—first flowers and then pigs. Those odorous days are over now as it's become an important transportation hub, with railroads and the New Jersey Turnpike, as well as corporate headquarters. Well-known organizations include Major League Baseball's MLB Network as well as the National Basketball Association's Replay Center. Recreational offerings include nature walks, birding and wildlife viewing in the Hackensack Meadowlands, which partially surrounds the city.
