What to Do in Marquette

First settled in 1849 as a shipping center, Marquette was named for the French missionary and explorer Father Jacques Marquette. Surrounded by the rugged Laurentian Uplands on the southern shore of Lake Superior, the city is regarded as the medical, shopping and political center of the Upper Peninsula. The wooden dome at Northern Michigan University's United States Olympic Education Center is home to Olympic training facilities and several Wildcat sports teams.
