The sea of vineyards is responsible for the city's self-proclaimed nickname “Zinfandel Capital of the World.” The Lodi appellation, comparable to France's Chateauneuf du Pape, is noted for old vine Zinfandel, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Sauvignon blanc.
