What to Do in Lawrenceburg

Lawrenceburg, founded on a bend in the Ohio River in 1803 by Capt. Samuel Vance, grew quickly after the advent of steamboat shipping. During this era the city's Gamblers' Row was notorious from Pittsburgh to New Orleans. In 1819 Lawrenceburg became the site of the state's first “skyscraper”—The Jessie Hunt House, a three-story brick building at Walnut and High streets. Due to its location, Lawrenceburg offers many scenic views of the river as well as numerous year-round recreational activities.
