Travelodge By Wyndham Roanoke

The room was sparsely furnished, with a gray composite floor. We were short one pillow, but after some cajoling, the Manager found one. I walked around the room barefoot. The next morning, as I showered, I noticed rivers of black water coming off the bottoms of my feet. I dressed using a towel to keep my feet off the floor. The side in contact with the floor turned black. As we checked out, I showed the towel to the manager. He responded: “We don’t mop the floor because it’s wood” I pointed out that it was a composite and even if it was wood, it should be mopped. Then he criticized me for getting the towel dirty. I accept that a cheap lodging will be sparsely furnished. I do not accept that it should be filthy.

Wyndham is a respected name in lodging, but this property has not aged well, nor been kept up. While the room itself was visibly clean and in decent condition, the shower was deteriorating with cracked and broken tiles, some receptacles were powerless, the soaps were miniscule, there was no maid service during our entire 5-day stay, we had to request and pick up towels several times, and our key cards had to be reprogrammed every evening to get back in the room when we'd been out all day. The TV came on at maximum volume every time, the pool was not useable, the ice machine was not accessible, and the stair treads were a hazard.
