The Paramount Hotel New York

There were two big problems. Problem one: We stayed for a week, and for that entire week, no more than two of the four small elevators were operational - and there were at least two nights where only one was visibly moving. Problem two: Morning two of our stay there was no hot water. We called the front desk and they said that "multiple floors" had been impacted, their engineers were working on it, and there was no ETA. Fine, things happen. When we woke up the next morning there was STILL no hot water. They sent an engineer up who said okay, you have to move rooms. The front desk accommodated that immediately and moved us to...a smaller room than the one we were paying for. And then tried to insist to our faces that it was the same class of room. The only reason we didn't throw a massive fit right then and there was that we had a friend to meet (after not being able to have a hot shower for 2 days...!) and by the time we got back, a different manager had realized that this was an error and upgraded us to a larger room than the one we'd originally paid for. But overall it shouldn't even have had to get that tense. Finally, as a more general note, the few times we needed to ask for local recommendations, the staff was uninformed and very politely unable to help us. Also, I couldn't get the ChromeCast in any of the 3 rooms we wound up occupying to work, so be prepared to bring your own adapters if you want to view your own content. Wifi existed but was not even as good as what we have at home.

I love the old building and it’s charm but prefer more fresh and clean. It felt dark and dingy. The room was very basic and no refrigeration or charging ports. I thought it was a bit stuffy and the shower was not desirable at all. So I didn’t shower there. I was surprised to be up on the 10th floor and have construction workers at our window pounding and grinding on the building early in the morning. But the staff was friendly and helpful.

My room was very small. There was no place to sit, other than on the bed, so I found it difficult to use for eating or writing. Plus, there was no table for setting things on.

The fan shut off after 1 hour, the rest of our night was stuffy & hot, $40 night charge for no extra services (no parking, no pool, etc..). Not a hotel AAA should recommend to members
