What to Do in Canandaigua

Canandaigua stands on the shore of the lake that shares its name. The town is on the site of the Seneca Indian village Kan-an-dar-gue, destroyed by Gen. John Sullivan in 1779. One of the most beautiful of the Finger Lakes, Canandaigua Lake is 17 miles long and averages about a mile wide. It harbors bass, pickerel, pike and trout. Around the lake are thousands of acres of vineyards. New York Wine & Culinary Center , 800 S. Main St., is a hub for information about wine production in Finger Lakes Wine Country and throughout the state.
