POINT OF INTEREST

Zorvino Vineyards

226 Main St., Sandown, New Hampshire

Nestled in rural New Hampshire, the family-owned Zorvino Vineyards produces award-winning grape and fruit wines in a stunning 80-acre (32-hectare) estate framed by New England forest. Visitors come to the winery, vineyards, bistro, and wood-beamed barn for everything from wine tastings and tours to hand-crafted menus and special events.

The Zorvino Vineyards takes a holistic and natural approach to wine-making, with every part of the process–from pruning to harvest–conducted by hand. Using grapes from the vineyard and some sourced from other regions, the owners make wines to appeal to all wine lovers, from classic to creative varieties. Notable wines include traditional malbec and chardonnay, distinctive home-grown whites and blushes, and innovative fruit wines from apples, peaches, blueberries, and other fruits.

Visitors enjoy wine-tasting-and-tour experiences, book lunch or dinner at the bistro, join themed food-and-wine dinner events or hire the charming post-and-beam barn for weddings and other private celebrations. You can also purchase wines at the on-site winery or preorder them online for collection.

Bookings for the bistro and wine tasting-and-tour experiences are strongly recommended. Visitors cannot bring their own food and drink into the estate. On-site amenities and attractions include beautiful grounds, a field with alpacas, picnic areas, restrooms, and a free car park.

The Zorvino Vineyards is at 226 Main St. in Sandown in southern New Hampshire. Local public transport is sparse, so the easiest way here is by car. From Boston, expect a roughly 50-minute drive: follow the I-93 Interstate northward before taking Exit 3 past Salem onto the NH-111 and then the NH-121A to the vineyards. It’s a straightforward, approximately 30-minute drive from Manchester via the NH-101, NH-121, and NH-121A.

The Zorvino estate is typically open daily year-round from 11am–5pm or later, but winery, tour, and bistro times differ and change seasonally, so check with the vineyard directly. Generally, tastings-and-tour experiences run on weekends, while the bistro is open Thursday–Sunday, and the winery is open daily–although all are observed at different hours according to the season. The vineyards are most popular during summer and weekends, so aim for a weekday for a quieter atmosphere.

While you’re at the Zorvino Vineyards, be sure to sample some of its inventive fruit wines. Perhaps sample a Chocolate Raspberry dessert wine made with raspberries and aged with chocolate. Or push the boundaries with the vineyards’ Z Labs craft wines, buying a bottle of sweet Apple Pie aged with cinnamon and vanilla or Peppermint Bark infused with white chocolate and candy canes.
