WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo
1-5 Wheat Road, Sydney, New South Wales, 2000
Spiders, snakes, and saltwater crocs are just some of the Australian species on display at this Sydney zoo. From the Outback to Tasmania, the country’s diverse ecosystems are represented in 10 themed zones. Enter the nocturnal section of the zoo to see sugar gliders, wombats, and other creatures you’re unlikely to spot in the wild.
The basics
This award-winning Sydney zoo gathers Australia’s fascinating wildlife into a single location, inviting visitors to travel the country through vivid exhibits. Tickets to the zoo can be booked online, either alone or in combination with other Sydney attractions. Since the SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium and Madame Tussauds Sydney are right next door, many visitors combine the family-friendly destinations into a single trip.
Things to know before you go
Check the zoo schedule before visiting. Animal feeds and zookeeper talks are held throughout the day.
This is a great choice for families. The whole zoo is stroller accessible, with baby-changing facilities on-site.
The zoo is wheelchair accessible, and free wheelchairs are available on loan from Guest Services.
How to get there
The zoo is located at 1–5 Wheat Road on Darling Harbour in Sydney. Several parking lots are available nearby, and it’s also possible to reach the zoo by ferry, train, bus, and light rail. The closest train stops are Wynyard Station and Town Hall Station, with services from T1 and T3. Ferries to Darling Harbour make regular departures from Circular Quay Wharf 5. If you’re arriving by light rail, exit at the Convention Centre or Pyrmont Bay.
When to get there
WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo is open throughout the year, with early closures on Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Most visitors take about 90 minutes to visit the zoo, and guests are admitted until 60 minutes before closing time. Opening hours are sometimes affected by special events, so it’s worth checking the zoo’s website before your visit.
What to do in Darling Harbour
A waterfront promenade and harborside cafés make this neighborhood a favorite for both visitors and locals. After your time at the zoo, check out the historic ships at Australian National Marine Museum, or stroll through the Chinese Garden of Friendship. Another popular attraction is the Flight Experience Flight Simulator, where you can step into the virtual cockpit of a passenger jet.
