Villa Fiorentino
53 Corso Italia, Sorrento, Italy, 80067
Villa Fiorentino was built in central Sorrento in the 1930s, and once belonged to textile makers Antonino Fiorentino and Lucia Cuomo. The couple was known internationally for their finely crafted handkerchiefs, which explains why Sorrentines often call the attraction Villa Fazzoletti (Handkerchiefs Villa). Today, it’s home to the Fondazione Sorrento, which hosts cultural events and exhibitions.
The basics
While sightseeing along Corso Italia—Sorrento’s main drag—stop by Villa Fiorentino for a rest in the garden or a look at the current exhibitions. The outdoor area has a turtle pond and a playground that’s popular among families, while the villa itself may interest anyone curious about Sorrentine culture. You’re likely to see the neoclassical exterior of Villa Fiorentino on Sorrento walking tours, which typically take you down Corso Italia on the way to the city’s main cathedral and piazza.
Things to know before you go
Villa Fiorentino is a great place to rest while sightseeing in Sorrento—the garden has several benches beneath shady citrus trees.
You don’t need a ticket to visit Villa Fiorentino’s garden and play area, but the exhibitions do require a fee.
There’s a flat path to enter the villa’s grounds from Corso Italia, and both the villa and garden are wheelchair-accessible.
Check Villa Fiorentino’s website for the exhibition and events schedule, which sometimes includes concerts.
How to get there
You’ll find the entrance to Villa Fiorentino on the western end of Corso Italia. You can walk there from most of the city’s main attractions within 10 minutes, including Villa Communale and Piazza Tasso. If you’d like to take public transportation, the Sorrento-Ospedale bus stop is just outside the entrance.
When to get there
Aim to visit Villa Fiorentino in May, when daytime temperatures are warm, the gardens are full of spring flowers, and you’ll beat Sorrento’s summertime crowds. Villa Fiorentino is open from morning to evening but closes for a few hours midday; be sure to stop by before 12pm or after 4pm.
Don’t miss the garden next door
Villa Fiorentino has one of the nicest public parks in Sorrento, and you can head to the O’Parucchiano restaurant next door if you’d like a meal along with your garden visit. Open since 1868, the local institution serves Sorrentine specialties in a massive venue, which consists of greenhouse and lemon garden dining rooms, plus an on-site citrus grove.
