The Ocean Race Museum
Mlle. Levante 10, Alicante, Spain, 03001
The triumphs and challenges of yacht racing are on full display at The Ocean Race Museum. Exhibits that chart the history of The Ocean Race and its contributions to sailing technology include yachts and gear used in the 9-month-long race (that has set off from Alicante since 2008), as well as videos, interactive displays, and simulators for a hands-on experience.
The basics
Sports fans, sailing enthusiasts, and families are most likely to get a kick out of exploring The Ocean Race Museum. With more than enough to keep visitors entertained for 1–2 hours, it’s a convenient place to spend time while waiting for an Alicante food tour.
Visitors can freely browse museum exhibits on their own or join the guided tours and immersive experiences on offer for a more in-depth and interactive exploration of this intense race. Follow up a visit to the museum by strolling between the palms of Explanada de España or head over to the elevator up to Santa Bárbara Castle.
Things to know before you go
Admission to the museum is free, but special experiences require tickets.
The museum is wheelchair accessible, with accessible toilets and an elevator.
Facilities include a cafeteria and merchandise store.
A parking lot is located behind the museum.
How to get there
Follow Alicante’s marina promenade towards the city’s cruise terminal to reach The Ocean Race Museum on foot. Alternatively, ride the Turibus as it performs a lap around Alicante to its stop directly outside the museum, or take one of many city buses or the 5 tram to Plaza del Mar and walk the small distance.
When to get there
The Ocean Race Museum is open to the public from Wednesday to Sunday and is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Opening hours are seasonal, with slightly longer hours in the summer months of July to late September, so it’s best to check the website for the latest times. With free entry to the museum, you can always leave and come back if you find the museum too busy.
Places to visit around Alicante Port
Around The Ocean Race Museum, you’ll uncover many things to keep you busy. The Volado Promenade is perfect for seaside strolls, while you’ll find several watersports businesses offering activities such as jet-skiing and parasailing. Just outside the port, Playa del Postiguet serves as the main beach for the city center.
