Tallinn Legends

Kullassepa 7, Tallinn, Estonia, 10146

Situated in Tallinn Old Town, Tallinn Legends offers an immersive journey through key events and places in the city’s medieval history. Theatrical and interactive experiences featuring actors, mechanical figures, and special effects bring the bygone city to life in dramatic and memorable ways ideal for families and history buffs.

The Basics

Tallinn Legends transports visitors to the Tallinn of the Middle Ages as they explore nine underground chambers—each a 360-degree themed set depicting a mysterious legend or event. Watch an alchemist in his workshop, see a gruesome beheading, and more, all in the course of a 40-minute journey.

You can access Tallinn Legends by purchasing entrance tickets in advance to save time while in the city. Visitors can arrive anytime during the opening hours and make their own way around the chambers at 15-minute intervals. Alternatively, choose a private walking tour of Tallinn Old Town that lets you adjust the itinerary to allow time for a visit to this interactive museum.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Tallinn Legends will appeal to sightseeing and history enthusiasts.

  • The museum can be scary, but is considered suitable for children aged 10 and up.

  • Performances are in four languages—Estonian, English, Finnish, and Russian. Ask for your chosen language on arrival.

  • The journey through the chambers, which is dark and features strobe lighting, may not be suitable for pregnant women or anyone who suffers from epilepsy, heart conditions, or claustrophobia.

  • The museum is not wheelchair- or stroller-accessible.

How to Get There

Tallinn Legends is located just off the Old Town Square in Tallinn’s Lower Town. To visit, make your way on foot to the town hall (cars are not permitted in the central Old Town). If facing the town hall’s arcades, walk to the right side into Kullassepa street, where you’ll find Tallinn Legends at No. 7.

When to Get There

Tallinn Legends is open daily from late morning until evening, with extended hours on Saturdays and Sundays. The busiest times are afternoons, weekends, and school holidays, so if you want to head straight in, aim to visit just after opening time on weekdays.

Horrific Highlights of Tallinn Legends

The chambers at Tallinn Legends bring some of the city’s darkest chapters to life. Meet the Black Death—the plague that killed thousands in the city in the 15th century—and witness the bloody execution of Baron Johann von Uexkull, beheaded in 1535 for murdering a peasant. Many visitors claim the scariest experience, however, is the ride in the museum’s special-effects elevator—be prepared.
