Seoul City Hall

110 Sejong-daero, Jung-gu, Seoul, South Korea

Perched behind Seoul's former—and more traditional—city hall from 1926, the sleek 13‐story Seoul City Hall looks like a wave of glass. Highlights include the 7-story Green Wall vertical garden and quirky Metaseosa Seobeol art installation, as well as the glass elevator which leads to the Sky Plaza Gallery, an art exhibition space.

The Basics

Since its completion in 2012, Seoul City Hall has become one of the city’s most prominent architectural landmarks. Many city sightseeing tours of the Korean capital include a stop at the building, and travelers who wish to visit independently can pick up a self-guided tour brochure inside the building. Evening tours of the city often include city hall for a chance to see it (and the plaza) illuminated at night.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Seoul City Hall is a must-see for lovers of art and architecture.

  • Admission to the building and its gallery space is free of charge.

  • Check the city calendar before your visit to see what might be going on at city hall.

  • Seoul City Hall is accessible for wheelchair users and strollers.

How to Get There

Seoul City Hall is easy to get to by subway. Take line 1 or 3 to City Hall Station and leave through exit 5. Alternatively, stop by on a guided Seoul walking, biking, or Segway tour, many of which pass by City Hall.

When to Get There

Seoul City Hall is open to visitors daily throughout the year, with longer hours on weekdays. There’s often something going on in the grassy plaza in front of city hall on summer weekends.

Old City Hall

The Renaissance-style Old City Hall building still stands in Seoul Plaza. Built in 1926, this historic structure now houses the Seoul Metropolitan Library, where visitors can take self-guided tours or check out rotating photography exhibitions related to Seoul and South Korean history.
