If someone in Accra mentions that they're going to Sakumono, chances are high that they're headed to the beach. This small community in the western coastal suburbs is known for its shores, as well as its beachside bars and restaurants, bird-watching opportunities at Sakumono Lagoon, and a golf club.

Although Sakumono offers easy access to nature without having to head far from the city, many people end up passing through en route to better-known destinations farther afield. How to get there
Sakumono is on the outskirts of Accra, which is part of the Greater Accra Region. From Accra it’s about a 40-minute drive, depending on traffic. If you prefer public transportation, you can take a train on the Tema Suburban railway from Accra Central station to Sakumono’s Asoprochona station.
When to get there
The best time to visit Sakumono is during Ghana's dry season, which runs from November through March. April typically brings rainfall, lasting through May and June.
The Shai Hills and Lake Volta
If you love nature and wildlife, consider devoting a day to visiting Shai Hills and Lake Volta, both within day-tripping distance of Accra and often visited in tandem.
