Royal Hawaiian Center
2201 Kalākaua Ave, Honolulu, HI, 96815
For retail therapy on Oahu, there’s nowhere better, or bigger, than the Royal Hawaiian Center. Taking up three square blocks along Kalakaua Avenue, this epic shopping complex contains more than 100 stores, dozens of restaurants, and even live music and hula dancing. If you’re seeking a little people-watching and a lot of window shopping, there’s nowhere better.
The basics
The Royal Hawaiian Center is the premier shopping, dining, and entertainment district of Waikiki. Largely outdoors, just about everything is available here, from artsy shops to upscale boutiques, sit-down restaurants to fast food-court service, zumba classes to rooftop stargazing. It’s like a city within a city, and it’s worth a stop even if you’re just curious about the hubbub.
Beyond its central Waikiki location, various hop-on hop-off tours make it easy to stop at the Royal Hawaiian Center. Walking tours sometimes include the shopping center, too.
Things to know before you go
On-site parking is available—you can get two hours free with any $10 purchase.
Stop at the Hale Guest Services & Heritage Room to ask any questions, make restaurant reservations, and more.
The shopping center has two floors, both of which are accessible to wheelchairs and strollers.
How to get there
The Royal Hawaiian Center is steps from the beach and within walking distance of numerous resorts, such as Halekulani and the Sheraton Waikiki Beach Resort. If you’re not already in the area, parking is available on-site (for a fee), and you can also nab a taxi, a hop-on hop-off bus, or a rideshare.
When to get there
The Royal Hawaiian Center is typically open from 10am to 9pm every day of the week, though do check in advance before your visit. Within opening hours, there’s no optimum time of day to explore the shopping center—plan your visit for whenever suits your itinerary best, or time with a meal at one of the many eateries.
Shop, dine, and…learn?
Far from just a shopping complex, the Royal Hawaiian Center offers guests more than just retail adventure. Complimentary live music and cultural classes—like massage demonstrations, lei-making, and hula lessons—are available to anyone interested. You can also check the schedule for the 750-seat Royal Hawaiian Theater, which puts on tribute shows for those needing a little fun.
