Ravello-Minori Walk
Ravello-Minori, Italy
One of the most scenic trails on the Amalfi Coast, the Ravello-Minori Walk offers sweeping views of the UNESCO-listed coastline as it winds its way through terraced citrus groves high above the sea. The downhill route from the panoramic clifftop town of Ravello to the waterfront hamlet of Minori is suitable for all ages and skill levels, and offers a quiet respite from the crowds that overrun Italy’s iconic stretch of coast.
The basics
The Ravello-Minori walk is 1.5 miles (2.5 kilometers) and takes less than an hour to cover, leaving you plenty of time to sightsee before or after. Join a walking tour of Ravello and its historic villas before setting off along the route, or walk the route and then hop on a boat tour of the Amalfi Coast leaving from Minori and heading back to Amalfi or Positano. You can also include a walk along this dazzling path as part of a private driving tour of the coast, with drop-off in Ravello and pickup at the path’s end in Minori.
Things to know before you go
This downhill trail is easy enough for a family hike, though the steep incline can be hard on the knees.
There is little shade along the trail, so bring a hat, sunblock, and plenty of water.
At Minori, you can connect to the Path of the Lemons (Sentiero dei Limoni), which continues on for another 1.5 miles (2.5 kilometers) to Maiori.
Minori is home to one of the largest beaches on the Amalfi Coast. Bring swimming gear if you plan on taking a dip after your walk—there is both a free public beach area and beach clubs renting sunbeds and umbrellas.
There are several flights of steps along the path, so Ravello-Minori Walk is not accessible to wheelchairs or strollers.
How to get there
The path begins from the center of Ravello, just beyond the Oscar Niemeyer Auditorium. To reach Ravello, you can take local SITA buses 5110 or 5120 or a taxi from Amalfi. From Positano, take the SITA bus 5070 or a ferry to Amalfi, and then connect to the local SITA bus up to Ravello. There is no train service on the Amalfi Coast.
When to get there
There is little respite from the Mediterranean sun along the Ravello-Minori walk and temperatures soar during the midday hours. Set off in the early morning or wait until late in the afternoon to avoid the peak heat. The steep coastline trails can be slippery when wet, so avoid walking the trail on rainy days.
The Path of the Lemons (Sentiero dei Limoni)
The Amalfi Coast is known for its steep and challenging trails, but not all routes are for expert walkers. The Path of the Lemons—or Sentiero dei Limoni in Italian—connects the two waterfront hamlets of Minori and Maiori, takes an hour to cover, and features just a handful of moderate inclines. You can walk directly from the beach in one town to the beach in the other for a refreshing swim before or after your hike; the trail can be completed in either direction.
