POINT OF INTEREST

Pier 60

1 Causeway Blvd., Clearwater, Florida

Pier 60 opened in Clearwater Beach in 1962 to extend the existing Clearwater Municipal Pier. Since then, Pier 60 has been the main gathering point for visitors and locals. The park features a playground, restroom, and snack bar, while the fishing pier has a bait house, telescopes, and covered pavilions.

Sunsets are what draw the crowds to Pier 60. You’ll see groups of people throughout the day dropping a line from the fishing pier, playing in the playground, or roaming the beach, but the headcount increases exponentially during sunset. Sunsets at Pier 60 is technically an official event, so check the schedule online to see if any special activities or attractions are on at weekends or holidays. Multiple hotels are within walking distance of Pier 60, as are restaurants and businesses that charter boats and other on-water activities.

  • Clearwater’s downtown has a ferry that makes trips to Clearwater Beach.

  • Animals, including dogs, are not allowed on Pier 60 or Clearwater Beach.

  • Although surrounding Clearwater Beach and Pier 60 Park are open 24/7, Pier 60 fishing pier has formal operating hours.

Pier 60 is at 7 Causeway Boulevard in Clearwater Beach. The easiest way to access it is from the city of Clearwater via the Causeway Byway. A large parking lot is on site. You can take the PSTA Shuttle and Jolley Trolley from locations around Clearwater and Clearwater Beach, which has a shuttle stop at Pier 60.

Arrive as early as possible if you’re spending time in the park, on the beach, or exploring the Pier, as parking fills up fast. The nightly sunset festivities begin two hours before sunset; this is Pier 60’s most popular time so plan ahead to secure a sunset viewing point.

The Pier 60 Sugar Sand Festival is the number one sand sculpting festival in the Sunshine State, held annually in late March or early April. Clearwater Beach dedicates 21,000 square feet (6,400 meters) to the Sugar Sand Walk Exhibit which features larger-than-life sand sculptures. This family-friendly festival also has free sand sculpting classes, food, fireworks, live music, and more.
