Osaka Museum of History

4 Chome-1-32 Otemae, Chuo, Osaka, Osaka Prefecture, 540-0008

Take a walk through centuries of Japanese history at the Osaka Museum of History. Exhibits tell the story of Osaka from its ancient origins as Japan’s first capital to the early Showa Period of the twentieth century. The life-sized displays and interactive exhibits are complemented by scale models, photographs, and historical relics.

The basics

The exhibits within the Osaka Museum of History are laid out chronologically, with visitors starting at the top and working their way down toward the present day. There are two paths through the museum to choose from: the Highlight Course offers a quick lesson in Osaka history in under an hour, while the Complete Course goes into greater depth. To make the most of your time, plan to visit the museum on your way to nearby Osaka Castle; some guided tours of the castle include museum admission.
