Neville Public Museum
210 Museum Pl, Green Bay, Wisconsin
Who said museums have to be dedicated to one genre? Green Bay’s Neville Public Museum showcases anything relevant to the region, “from fossils to footballs,” championing science, art, and history at large. With exhibits spanning epochs, eras, and interests, it’s a rewarding stop for visitors across the board—with something for anyone who’s curious and ready to learn.
The Neville Public Museum started as an exhibit in the basement of the local library, but soon outgrew its roots, and found a permanent (above-ground) home in 1923. Having expanded its collection of artifacts over the past 100 years, the Neville hosts eclectic exhibits ranging from the works of Martin Luther King Jr. to the science of sound, to birds (from forest to fashion), to a two-century look at “Guns & Gowns.”
For those touring the Packers Heritage Trail, you can plan a stop here for before or after; the trailhead is located at the front entrance of the Neville Public Museum.
No food or drink is allowed inside the museum, though the gift shop does sell water and soda.
The museum is wheelchair accessible and has elevators to the second-floor galleries.
If you need special accommodations, like a wheelchair, talk to the folks at the front desk.
Most visitors drive to the museum, and free parking is available on-site. Taxis and rideshares are also available, and biking and walking are decent options, too, as the museum is incredibly centrally located, right in the thick of things on the Fox River.
The Neville Public Museum is closed on Mondays and all major holidays. On Tuesdays and the first Wednesday of every month, it’s open late, which can be a fun time to explore. In general, the museum rarely feels overly crowded.
While some of the museum’s collection touches on serious subjects, the Neville is well-known for being family-friendly, so don’t shy away from bringing the kids here. Beyond the standard exhibits, special demonstrations offer hands-on fun, like Spectacular Science, which dives into the questions behind germs, light, engineering, and, yep, candy.
