National Museum of Finland (Suomen Kansallismuseo)
Mannerheimintie 34, Helsinki, Finland, 00100
Discover Finnish history and art during a visit to the National Museum of Finland (or Suomen Kansallismuseo). The exterior of the building—which was constructed in 1916 and extensively renovated in 2000—resembles a Gothic church with its stonework and tower, but inside, the galleries explore different periods of local history.Note: Beginning in October 2023, the museum is closing for 2–3 years for renovation and new construction.
The basics
See church relics, cultural exhibitions, ceiling frescoes, and jewelry during a visit to the National Museum of Finland. Each gallery has a specific theme, such as the Treasure Trove, displaying coins, silver, weaponry, and medals, and an exhibition on the prehistory of Finland, including archaeological finds. The museum is a popular stop during tours of Helsinki, including walking tours and the hop-on, hop-off bus.
