POINT OF INTEREST

National Art Gallery

Konstitucijos Prospektas 22, Vilnius, Lithuania, 08105

Behind the gray exterior of Vilnius’ National Art Gallery lies a sleek and modern arts and culture center with more than 46,000 exhibits of Lithuanian artwork in its extensive collection. The gallery is a branch of the Lithuanian National Museum of Art focusing on Lithuanian art from the 20th and 21st centuries.

The basics

The National Art Gallery includes temporary exhibitions and a permanent collection within its 10 exhibition halls. The gallery’s focus on modern art covers exhibits ranging from paintings and sculptures to photography and film. Allow around two hours for your visit if you have a keen interest in modern art. Guided tours of the gallery in English are available by reservation. You can participate in art lessons, art history lessons, and workshops in the gallery’s education center.

Things to know before you go

  • You'll find free parking at the National Art Gallery parking lot.

  • The gallery is accessible and barrier-free for people using wheelchairs and strollers.

  • Admission to the gallery is free on the last Sunday of each month.

  • The gallery's in-house restaurant has different hours than the museum. It is open every day except Sundays and only for lunch on Mondays.

How to get there

The National Art Gallery is located north of the Neris River in the district of Šnipiškės. Except for No. 89, few public buses run directly from the city center to its nearest bus stop, the Nacionalinė dailės galerija stop. Instead, take the 1G, No. 10, or No. 53 bus to the Žaliasis tiltas bus stop and walk for 10 minutes to the museum. Alternatively, walk from the city center.

When to get there

Vilnius’ National Art Gallery is open daily except for Mondays and national holidays. Opening hours are from late morning into the evening; however, the gallery does close earlier on Sundays. The gallery's later hours make it a good choice for the late afternoon and evening when other Vilnius museums and attractions have closed.

The Lithuanian National Museum of Art

You can further explore Vilnius's art scene by visiting other branches of the Lithuanian National Museum of Art in the city. In the Old Town of Vilnius, you can visit the Vilnius Picture Gallery, set inside an ornate palace, and see works by artists from the 16th to 19th centuries. A smaller museum to visit is Radvila Palace, whose main exposition focuses on work created in Lithuania under the Soviet Union.
