POINT OF INTEREST

Mall of Arabia

First 6th of October, Cairo, Egypt, 3236020

One of Cairo’s biggest malls, the Mall of Arabia is a huge shopping and entertainment complex on the western fringes of Egypt’s capital. Home to around 900 stores, multiple restaurants and coffee shops, a multiscreen cinema, and kids’ entertainment, the mall is a magnet for fashionistas, foodies, and families wanting to shop and relax in comfort.

The basics

Distinctive for its roof sails, glass exteriors, and palm-and fountain-dotted plaza, the Mall of Arabia offers a pleasant indoor-and-outdoor setting. Browse big-name brands like Zara, H&M, Mango, and Nike; refuel at the food court’s international and local eateries; catch a movie, or let the kids loose at the play areas.

Most travelers head to the mall independently, but it’s also possible to visit on private tours that combine shopping time here with handy round-trip Cairo or Giza hotel transfers. You can also consider reserving a private Cairo car-and-driver service or booking a city tour that lets you personalize your itinerary to include the mall.

Things to know before you go

  • The Mall of Arabia is popular with anyone wanting to shop, dine, and unwind away from central Cairo.

  • Check the site’s maps to identify the mall gate nearest to the outlets you plan to visit.

  • The mall has wheelchair-accessible areas, with wheelchairs available to borrow.

  • On-site amenities include ATMs, restrooms, and free parking.

How to get there

The mall is on the 26th July Corridor in Cairo’s 6th of October City, around 19 miles (30 kilometers) or a 30-minute drive from downtown. No direct public transportation runs here, so cabs or Uber are your best options; book a round-trip, as finding return taxis might be tricky. If you’re driving, cross the 6th October Bridge from downtown, and follow the Nile Corniche northward and the 26th of July Corridor/Route 75M to the mall.

When to get there

The Mall of Arabia is typically open daily from morning till late. Bear in mind that its hours may vary, and individual stores may have different operating times, so check directly with the outlets. Visit in the morning early in the week for a quieter experience; the mall typically gets busier as the day and week progress, and can be crowded from the late afternoon to early evening, particularly on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays.

Fountain shows at the Mall of Arabia

Take your cue from Cairenes and sync your Mall of Arabia visit with its popular nighttime fountain show. Every evening, the fountains in the outdoor plaza glow with multicolored illuminations and sway in time with music. Grab a dinner table at a nearby alfresco restaurant terrace and enjoy the show as you eat.
