Las Vegas Lake
Henderson, NV
A human-made reservoir, Las Vegas Lake may not have the majesty of Lake Mead—a much larger reservoir formed by the Hoover Dam—but it does offer a serene setting for water sports and activities, not far from the famous Strip. It's part of a Mediterranean-themed residential community, with boat rentals, village-style shopping, and multiple luxury resorts.
The basics
Las Vegas lake lies within a residential development in Henderson. Water access is reserved for visitors staying at local resorts, or those renting boats from the water sport shop near the south shore. You can rent various types of “only in Vegas” boats, including pink electric cruisers, pontoon boats, and kayaks. Off the water, there are golf courses on the north and south sides of the lake, and hiking trails near the west shoreline.
Things to know before you go
Summers in Nevada are very hot— bring sunscreen and stay hydrated.
While the lake offers family-friendly activities, some restaurants and golf courses have restrictions for children.
Find boat rentals on the southeast side of the lake near the Ponte Vecchio, named after the famous bridge in Venice.
How to get there
Lake Las Vegas is located about 17 miles (27 kilometers) from the Las Vegas Strip. Travelers can reach the lake by car in 30–40 minutes via I-215 and Lake Mead Parkway. Rideshare services and private shuttles are also available from some area hotels.
When to get there
Come to Lake Las Vegas during the spring and fall for more temperate Nevada-desert weather. If you visit during the summer, which can bring punishing heat, plan outdoor activities for the morning or evening when the temperature is typically cooler. The lake is often the setting for sporting and community events, from golf tournaments to New Year's fireworks—check online ahead of your trip to see what’s on.
Boat rentals at Las Vegas Lake
Renting a boat from the Las Vegas Lake Marina grants you access to the otherwise semi-private lake. What’s more, you have options when it comes to rentals: low-key trips might call for pink electric-motor boats, while adventurous outings might demand flyboards, wakeboards, or use of a boatless wakeboarding cable system. Stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, and pedal boats are also usually available.
