The basics

Farm tours on a tractor-pulled wagon allow you to see produce—such as cacao, acai, papayas, and lilikoi (passionfruit)—right where it’s grown, but if you don't make it in time for a tour, you can still wander around a bit or stop for a meal or an acai bowl. Many visitors to Oahu come to the farms on a "grand circle" tour around the island, most of which stop at all sorts of popular attractions, from Diamond Head State Monument to the Dole Plantation.

Things to know before you go

• A Kahuku Farms tour is a must for travelers interested in sustainable agriculture.

• Dogs are welcome (and loved) at the farm, but they should be kept on a leash.

• The café has plenty of options for vegetarians and gluten-free guests, and many items can be made vegan. There's also a kids' menu and a menu for dogs.

How to get there

Kahuku Farms is just outside of the town of Kahuku, and only takes a couple of minutes to reach by car via Highway 83 W. From Honolulu it’s around an hour by car, but most visitors—whether they're on tours or traveling independently—take their time getting up to the North Shore and stop at other sights along the way.

When to get there

The farm is open Thursday–Monday from late morning to late afternoon throughout the year. Tours take place in the morning, right after the farm opens, but you can also stop by for a bite at the café. Expect crowds if you visit during the summer or between mid-December and early January, both of which are high seasons for tourism in Oahu.

Shopping at Kahuku Farms

Kahuku Farms offers a large selection of products that make nice gift items, including passionfruit vinaigrette, syrup, and jelly. It also sells its own dark and milk chocolate, cocoa nibs, and honey, plus flavored coffee, pancake mix, and two different types of dog treats. The farm’s best-selling product is its Honey Mango Body Butter, which contains all sorts of nourishing ingredients, including aloe, honey, and evening primrose oil.
