Atlantic City Boardwalk
Like other oceanside promenades, the Atlantic City Boardwalk stretches along the New Jersey beachfront and is lined with boutiques, eateries, and other diversions. This wooden walkway has achieved iconic-level status thanks to its place in pop culture and its storied history. Here, you’ll find nostalgic nods like the canopied rolling chairs, saltwater taffy shops, ocean views, and glitzy casinos.
You can enjoy the Atlantic City Boardwalk year-round with a morning bike ride. Between 6am and noon, it’s open to bike riders; rentals are available on the boardwalk. Or, hire one of its iconic rolling chairs to explore the boards in style and comfort. In addition to the shops and eateries, the walkway features arcade games, go-karts, and paintball. At the Steel Pier, you’ll find a carousel, bumper cars, and more thrill rides for older kids.
- Dogs aren't allowed on the boardwalk in the peak summer season. Between September 15 and Memorial Day, leashed dogs are allowed.
- Atlantic City seagulls are infamous for their aggressive behavior and may try to steal your food while on the boardwalk.
- The price of a ride in one of the boardwalk’s rolling chairs is determined by distance and/or time.
From the north, take the Garden State Parkway South to exit 38, the Atlantic City Expressway. From the south, take I-95 to Delaware Memorial Bridge to Route 40 to Route 322 or the Cape May-Lewes Ferry to Garden State Parkway North to Atlantic City Expressway. Atlantic City is also accessible via NJ Transit; the rail terminal is adjacent to the Atlantic City Convention Center. A tram service runs up and down the boardwalk.
The Atlantic City Boardwalk is open year-round, but the most popular time to visit is in summer, roughly from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Summer is when the weather and water are warmest, so expect to encounter the biggest crowds then. A free concert series occurs in the summer at Kennedy Plaza on the boardwalk.
This amusement park on the Atlantic City Boardwalk features a 227-foot (69-meter) tall observation wheel, kid-friendly rides like bumper cars and twirling tea cups, and high-flying thrills for adults. It also has an arcade with video games, crane machines, and prize redemption games. The park is located near the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.
