We’ve compiled this list of the top 20 things to do that both new and experienced visitors to Prague will enjoy. Whether you’re planning your trip around these exclusively or are working them into your schedule, we’re sure you’ll find something to make your trip to Prague unforgettable.

1. Climb Petrin Tower for Stunning City Views

  • Address: Petřínské sady 633, 118 00 Praha 1-Malá Strana, Czechia
  • Time needed: 1 to 2 hours

If you love scenic outdoor views, take some time to visit Petrin Tower while in Prague. This landmark tower stands at 208 feet tall and features 229 steps to its peak. It even bears a slight resemblance to the Eiffel Tower. What was once used as an observation and transmission tower is now a popular tourist attraction, providing 360-degree city views.

2. Discover the Majestic History of Prague Castle

  • Address: Hradčany, 119 08 Prague 1, Czechia
  • Time needed: 3 to 4 hours

One of the best things to do in Prague is visit the largest ancient castle complex in the world: Prague Castle. Within this castle complex, you’ll find St. Vitus Cathedral and The Royal Palace, among other vast historical buildings and gardens. The Bohemian Crown Jewels are even housed in a hidden room in the castle, but it’s certainly not advised to try to locate them.

There’s a lot to see and do at this location, so bring comfortable shoes and try to start your adventure in the morning to avoid crowds.

3. Relax at Letná Park with a Beer in Hand

  • Address: Letná, 170 00 Prague 7, Czechia
  • Time needed: 1 to 2 hours

If you have some downtime while enjoying Prague, stop at Letná Park. This park looks over the Vltava River and offers walking, running and cycling paths. It also has several playgrounds, making it a favorite destination for children. A 75-foot-tall metronome stands on the hill, giving visitors a unique landmark to view.

While relaxing in the park, you can stop by the beer garden to enjoy a drink with friends. The garden is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily except during winter, when it’s closed.

4. Attend a Concert at the Magnificent Rudolfinum

  • Address: Alšovo nábř. 79/12, 110 00 Staré město-Staré Město, Czechia
  • Time needed: 1 to 2 hours

No matter if you’re a classical music aficionado or simply someone looking to expand your musical views, attending a concert at the Rudolfinum is a must-do in Prague. Named after Rudolf II, who enjoyed the arts, the Rudolfinum has been the home of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra since 1885.

Not only does this spectacular building host some of the finest music you can hear, but it’s also the site of art exhibitions, ballet performances and other cultural events, so be sure to check the calendar of events.

5. Watch the Astronomical Clock Come to Life

  • Address: Staroměstské nám. 1, 110 00 Josefov, Czechia
  • Time needed: 30 minutes

One of the most popular Prague attractions is the Astronomical Clock, a medieval timepiece well over 600 years old. This clock stands 43 feet tall and has three distinct dials: the astronomical dial, which shows the position of the sun, moon and stars; the calendar dial, which shows the day, month and year; and the astrological dial, which shows the position of the planets and the zodiac signs.

While the clock is free to visit, it costs 300 CZK to explore its interior and climb the tower for city views.

6. Step Back in Time at Speculum Alchemiae

  • Address: Haštalská 1, 110 00 Staré Město, Czechia
  • Time needed: 30 minutes to 1 hour

For a truly unique adventure, visit the Speculum Alchemiae, a historical alchemist’s workshop with guided tours that glimpse medieval science. You can explore the laboratory, learn about alchemy and interact with exhibits that transport you to the late Middle Ages.

Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes as the museum does involve walking up and down stairs.

7. Uncover Hidden Gems at Vyšehrad Castle

  • Address: V Pevnosti 159/5b, 128 00 Praha 2-Vyšehrad, Czechia
  • Time needed: 1 to 3 hours

If you’re looking to find a rich history and stunning views, put Vyšehrad Castle on your list of things to see in Prague. As one of the oldest settlements in Prague, situated above the Vltava River, this castle features notable sights like the Rotunda of St. Martin and underground casements that house some of the original statues from the Charles Bridge.

At Vyšehrad, you can find plenty of garden and park space, easily breaking up your day of adventure with some relaxing outdoor time. While visiting, see if you can find all of the intricate details, such as monuments and sculptures, layered throughout the castle.

8. Walk Through History at the Powder Tower

  • Address: Nám. Republiky 5, 110 00 Staré Město, Czechia
  • Time needed: 1 to 2 hours

The Powder Tower was initially built to store gunpowder and is now a popular tourist attraction, bringing in over 70,000 visitors annually. At the top of the tower is a platform where you can overlook the Old Town (though you’ll need to climb the 186 steps to get there), offering stunning panoramic views of the city.

This is one must-do in Prague if you enjoy history or architecture — the tower’s facade has statues of Adam and Eve, St. Peter and Paul and Vladislav II, to name a few.

9. Add Your Mark to the Lennon Wall

  • Address: Velkopřevorské nám., 118 00 Malá Strana, Czechia
  • Time needed: 30 minutes

Hands down, one of the best places to visit in Prague is the Lennon Wall. This colorful graffiti wall, featuring a giant portrait of John Lennon, symbolizes peace, freedom and unity. It also features a diverse range of artwork, from peace symbols to political messages and Beatles song lyrics.

This living canvas has undergone many facelifts over the years but still maintains its vibrant energy. Visitors are encouraged to leave their mark on the wall in some areas (but not all), so bring a marker or two.

10. Cruise the Vltava River for Unique City Views

  • Address: Vltava River
  • Time needed: 1 to 3 hours

What better way to visit the Vltava River — the largest river in the Czech Republic — than by boat? Cruisers can take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city and participate in one of many different cruises available, such as a dinner, historical or sightseeing cruise. Each cruise offers a unique perspective on the city and its culture.

These costs vary since each cruise type varies by length (and food offerings for a lunch or dinner cruise). However, most have informative commentary throughout the cruise and a host of onboard amenities to give you an experience you won’t soon forget.

11. Immerse Yourself in the Vibrancy of Old Town Square

  • Address: Staroměstské náměstí, 110 00, Staré Město, Praha 1
  • Time needed: Half a day

Old Town Square is Prague’s unequivocal heart and soul, not to mention home to one of the world’s most fabulous Christmas tree displays. This square in the city’s center is a central gathering place for everything from royal coronations to political rallies and everything in between.

There’s much to see and do in the square, so plan at least half a day to explore. Some notable places you’ll want to add to your to-see list include the Astronomical Clock, St. Nicholas Church and Church of Our Lady Before Týn. And during Christmastime, you’ll see an incredible holiday display of decorations and festive food stalls.

12. Marvel at the Beauty of Strahov Monastery and Library

  • Address: Strahovské nádvoří 1/132, 118 00 Praha 1-Strahov, Czechia
  • Time needed: 1 to 2 hours

One of the most important architectural landmarks in the Czech Republic, the Strahov Monastery currently serves as a center of learning and scholarship and its library is the main attraction for many visitors. You can enjoy both the Theological Hall and the Philosophical Hall and view the expansive collection of books for both.

Beyond the library, you can tour the Strahov Picture Gallery, St. Nicholas Church and the courtyards and gardens to familiarize yourself with Baroque architecture. Before you leave, stop at the Strahov Brewery, which has been brewing beer for over 600 years.

13. Stroll Across the Iconic Charles Bridge

  • Address: Karlův most, 110 00 Praha 1, Czechia
  • Time needed: 30 minutes to 1 hour

Any local would tell you that a must-do in Prague is taking a stroll over the Charles Bridge, the historic bridge that crosses the Vltava River. Standing almost 1,800 feet long, you can find adornments of 30 statues, including statues of saints and Czech kings. While the bridge is free to cross at any time (it’s open 24 hours a day, seven days a week to pedestrians), there is a fee to enter the museum on the south side of the bridge.

Near the Charles Bridge, you can find the Charles Bridge Restaurant, Old Town Square and Lesser Town Bridge Tower, making this a sight that you can easily fit into your day of exploring other areas.

14. Explore the Rich History of the Jewish Quarter

  • Address: Josefov, 110 00 Prague 1, Czechia
  • Time needed: 2 to 3 hours

Culture enthusiasts and history buffs would be remiss if they didn’t visit the Jewish Quarter while visiting Prague. This historic district has several synagogues, museums and other historical sites. Visitors can explore The Jewish Cemetery, home to over 12,000 Jewish graves or the Pinkas Synagogue, a memorial to the Jewish victims of the Holocaust.

When visiting the Jewish Quarter, it’s important to be mindful. Wear modest clothing and remember that the synagogues and cemeteries are sacred. To be the most respectful, it’s best to keep your voice down when having a conversation and be mindful not to take flash photography if taking pictures.

15. Hike Through the Scenic Trails of Divoká Šárka

  • Address: 116 00 Prague 6, Czechia

Visitors can go for a hike in the park, swim in the gorge, enjoy a midday picnic and even enjoy a performance at the Open Air Theatre. It’s open to visitors 24 hours a day, so take advantage of visiting when you can.

16. Escape to the Tranquility of Kampa Island

  • Address: Kampa Island, 118 00 Prague-Prague 1, Czechia
  • Time needed: 1 to 2 hours

If you want a break from exploring the busy city of Prague, escape to Kampa Island, nestled in the Vltava River. Filled with narrow streets, quiet courtyards and waterside paths, you can enjoy the sights of big-city Prague in a more relaxed environment.

You can take Charles Bridge Connection directly to the island, but wear comfortable footwear to navigate the tight terrain. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes on the island, so take a break from wandering to enjoy some local cuisine.

17. Delve Into the Life of Franz Kafka at His Museum

  • Address: Cihelná 635, 118 00 Malá Strana, Czechia
  • Time needed: 2 to 3 hours

Franz Kafka was a famous writer and is considered one of modern literature’s most influential figures. Since he spent his entire life in Prague, naturally, he made the city significant to his work and legacy. The Franz Kafka Museum houses a collection of Kafka’s letters, diaries, photographs and other personal belongings, making them available for all to view and enjoy.

Because the collection is so large, you should plan to spend some considerable time at this museum to truly get to know this influential writer. Whether you’re an aspirational writer or simply fascinated by history, you’ll surely walk away with a newfound respect for modern literature.

18. Dive Into Czech History at the National Museum

Holding an impressive 14 million objects and artifacts from categories like arts and culture, science and technology and prehistory, to name a few, you’ll get lost in time exploring everything this cultural archive has to offer.
