Overview
The trail up Lion’s Head follows a spiraling path that circles the mountain. At one point, the trail gives way to rough terrain where you must step up and use your hands to scramble over rocks. You then continue steeply upward to the first ladder, before traversing along a narrow ledge with a chain handrail. Next, you will continue until you reach a fork, where you will turn right up two rock pitches via two ladders from where you can carry on with the path to gain the crest of the southeast ridge. The upper section near the top, the hike turns into a short scramble with the last ladder to the 669-meter summit. At the summit of Lion’s Head, a 360-degree view awaits; it is one of the three iconic peaks framing the city of Cape Town. With Table Mountain as its backdrop. Gradually, the city lights will switch on or off, revealing a constantly changing panorama. A headlamp will be provided when needed. The descent takes a minimum of 60 minutes.
