AAA Diamond Inspector Notes
This grand hotel is richly evocative of early New York. Museum-quality renovations to a classic 19th-century building include exceptional detailing, stylish restaurants, plush rooms and marble baths. Persian carpets draped around the reception area, mood lighting, custom furnishings and a post-modern spin on late 19th-century style artwork provide interesting contemporary interior touches. The painstaking renewal of the exposed structural elements, particularly the elaborately handcrafted wrought iron railings used as ornamentation, simultaneously rediscover and beautifully convey the majesty of a long-since forgotten "Roaring Nineties" New York. Edgar Allan Poe worked out of the hotel when the area was famed as Manhattan's Theater District. A portrait of Poe and a raven adorn the lobby. There are two completely extraordinary penthouses which are designed for high-profile entertaining. Smoke free premises. 287 units. 10 stories, interior corridors. Accessibility (Call).

We were told we could check in early at 1:30 and confirmed this before we made our travels early in the day. I told them we had a 10monrh old and need him to take a nap. We would have changed our travel plans iif we knew we couldn’t check in early. We arrived and our room wasn’t ready like promised. we also asked for a crib 5x (including the request on the reservation) and did not get it until minutes before my son need to go to bed. The crib had no protective cover on the mattress- thankfully we brought our own sheet.
