AAA Diamond Inspector Notes

Antiques and original artwork decorate this restored 1891 hotel, which is located in LoDo near the train station and within quick access of many restaurants, boutiques and event venues. The ornately painted lobby ceilings, Western-theme oil paintings and luxurious seating areas evoke a 19th-century elegance without pretentiousness. This hotel houses one of my favorite bars, the Cruise Room. This bar is shaped like a wine or alcohol bottle and features original Art Deco décor. Guest rooms feature tasteful Victorian- or Art Deco-inspired décor with high-thread-count linens, antique or custom-made furnishings, and flat-screen TVs. Although there are some difficulties for a structure built in 1891, this hotel has made great strides in becoming eco-friendly. In the evenings, guests gather in the lobby for the complimentary bourbon bar to sample local bourbons. Smoke free premises. 80 units. 5 stories, interior corridors.

A very historic hotel in downtown Denver. However, all around the hotel there seem to be homeless shelters and men looking for handouts. It was a little uncomfortable for someone who does not know downtown Denver. We were annoyed about some of the fees that were tacked onto the cost of the hotel, such as internet fee, historic hotel fee, etc. We would rather have such a cost included in the room rate and not charged separately. It is about expectations. Otherwise, we found the hotel charming and old fashioned that was enjoyable.
