Maenam Beach

Maenam Beach is relaxed but still has everything you need. You’re not far off the main drag, so you can stock up on supplies at 7-11 for your beach time. Several resorts line the beach and often give out their chairs and umbrellas for free. You can also break up your sunbathing with a meal or a drink at one of the beach’s bars or restaurants. If you want more adventure, there are areas to rent banana boats and Jet Skis.

Thailand is pushing reef-friendly sunscreen, so make sure that’s the kind you’re using. Don’t expect a party atmosphere here- come to Maenam Beach instead to wind down. Stay in this area for a few days to have the full Maenam Beach experience.

Koh Samui is one of the largest and most popular Thai islands, so it’s easy to get to from Bangkok. There’s an airport, so flying is the easiest way to get there. Going by land and ferry for more of an adventure is also possible. Once you get to Koh Samui, take a motorcycle taxi, a regular taxi, or a rideshare to get you to Maenam Beach.

The high season is from November to February when the skies are clearest and the sun shines bright. Later in the year, the monsoon comes, and you’ll see rain most days. However, rates decrease in off-peak seasons; the weather is still warm, and you will see sunshine. Consider coming off-peak if you want a cheaper holiday and don’t mind wearing a rain poncho some of the time.

Thailand has so many good foods to try that it’s a shame to order just one dish. One of the best ways to try all sorts of dishes is to share with your partner or group. Mix up your order by choosing a fresh salad like laab gai or spicy minced chicken salad. Add something saucy, like red curry. Add grilled seafood for an extra element. Then, for your next meal, order completely different things.
