David Davis Mansion State Historic Site
1000 Monroe Dr., Bloomington, IL, 61701
David Davis Mansion State Historic Site, 1000 Monroe Dr., was built in 1872 for U.S. Supreme Court Judge David Davis, Abraham Lincoln's campaign manager. The home is considered a fine example of mid-Victorian residential architecture; such features as indoor plumbing and a cast-iron cooking stove were considered luxuries. Original furnishings and other period pieces are enhanced by handsome woodwork and hand-painted ceilings. Guided tours of the mansion depart from the visitor center, which also offers an orientation video. The Prologue to Presidency: Abraham Lincoln on the Illinois Eighth Judicial Circuit exhibit in the Lincoln-era barn and a restored historic garden also are available. Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
