DESTINATION

Brookings

Early residents named the town after Wilmot Wood Brookings, the prominent pioneer who helped organize the railroad through the region. In 2001, three men canoeing on the Big Sioux north of Brookings discovered evidence of what is believed to be an 11,000-year-old mammoth kill site.
