The city is probably best known as the home of Bowling Green State University, founded in 1910 and now home to more than 20,000 students on its main campus. The northwest entrance to the campus (Poe Road at N. College Dr.) features a piece of public art entitled “The People.” A team of art students created a design to depict silhouettes of the people of the area engaged in their professions and everyday activities. Bowling Green buildings and landmarks and the Great Black Swamp are represented as well.
Simpson Garden Park, 1291 Conneaut Ave., features a variety of themed gardens. It's open daily dawn-dusk.
Figure skater Scott Hamilton, who grew up in Bowling Green, frequented BGSU Ice Arena. The facility offers public skating; for schedule information phone (419) 372-2264.
