Francis Bellamy, author of the “Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag,” is buried in Rome Cemetery; phone (315) 336-6210. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers of the American Revolution is next to the city hall at 207 N. James St. It was designed by Lorimer Rich, who also planned the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.
The Tug Hill plateau north of Rome receives up to 200 inches of snow a year. This region is renowned for its skiing, snowmobiling and year-round hunting and fishing.
