The surrounding Canadian Shield, covered with trees and laced with nature trails, is ideal for hiking. Bicyclists, fishing enthusiasts and golfers will find plenty to do in the town and its environs. Winter sports include ice-skating, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing.
A nature preserve with hiking trails is about 32 kilometres (20 mi.) north of the lake. Ste-Agathe-des-Monts also boasts a summer stock theater, Le Patriote. Village du Mont-Castor, about 1 kilometres (.6 mi.) north, is a re-creation of a turn-of-the-20th-century village of Québécois influence. The houses are private, but visitors are welcome to drive through and admire this unique community.
