The Pacific Coast Scenic Byway, Southwest Washington Coast (US 101) begins at the northern end of the Astoria-Megler Bridge on the Columbia River and offers views of a variety of coastal habitats as it journeys north through the Willapa National Wildlife Refuge.

From the Astoria-Megler Bridge, US 101 follows the shore of the Columbia River north through Fort Columbia State Park, tunneling under a historic coastal defense site at Chinook Point. The byway continues through the Willapa National Wildlife Refuge, where scenery includes freshwater and saltwater marshes, the Willapa Bay shoreline and coniferous forest.
