What to Do in Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park

Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park occupies 2,965 acres 2.5 miles northwest of Marietta off I-75 exit 269, then 4 mi. w. on Old US 41. In June 1864, Gen. Joseph E. Johnston's Confederate Army, retreating before Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman's march to Atlanta, took up a strong position on Kennesaw (KEN-uh saw) Mountain in the path of the invading forces. Sherman, however, ultimately forced Johnston and his troops to abandon the mountain and retreat south.
