Very clean hotel multiple renovations going on at once no pool access

This hotel was in an average location, Cracker Barrel and Waffle House nearby and near interstate. Hotel lobby and first floor was clean. Pool was closed and has been for some time it seems. We were on the third floor, the hallways were humid and the wallpaper was coming off the walls, it had been stapled back up in various places. Our room was generally clean, but a lot of the Marriott details were missing. First, our trash cans were sitting outside the hotel room by the door. Our lampshades were either dirty or still had plastic on them. The overhead lights didn’t work. We were missing a shower curtain. The tv next to the bed wasn’t working. There were cigarette butts and a rotting orange on our balcony. As we pulled out the sofa there was trash underneath. The couple across the hall was there on a multi-night stay. They had asked for their room to be cleaned a couple of times and no one had entered. On the whole, the property needs a refresh but also was missing on a lot of the details.

Older Hotel that has lost it's value for watching out for the small things. Example: The shower curtain in the room was a slip/trip hazard because it was about 12 inches too long. We were standing on the curtain while showering. Very small TV, and it did not work properly. If they want to compete, they will value the small things.

Check in was a bit of a hassle. They didn’t have mobile check-in. Upon arrival to the hotel, there was another couple trying to check into my room after settling. The front office did call and apologize but it was still an unsettling experience. The room is pretty old and had a damp smell of mold. The bathroom is VERY dated and the drainage on both the sink and bath itself was slow and bad. If I was staying multiple nights, I would’ve left after 30 minutes. Not a fan of the area as well. Definitely don’t think it was advertised correctly.
